Vinyl Floor Covering for Bedroom

Wednesday, 15-April-2009 - Veghel - Tapijtcentrum Nederland came today and laid vinyl floor covering in our bedroom. It took about 20 minutes, but prior to their coming we needed couple of days to move every thing out. After the vinyl floor covering was in, I put the floor boards back in place.

First Boekel Tuesday Evening Skate

Tuesday, 14-April-2009 - Boekel - We had a great turnout and great weather for the first Tuesday Evening Skate in Boekel organized by the Boekel Skate and Skeeler Group. Thirty-six men and women, including eight Fun on Wheels skaters, were good for an hour of fun--about 15 km. Until last year, I thought I could never make it to Boekel in time to start at 1900--I work in Tilburg--an hour drive from Veghel; and I normally don't get off until 1800. This year, I changed my schedule--going in to work earlier so I can put in eight hours and get home in time to go skating. Last evening, I was asleep at 2200 so I could get up at 0400. I left for work at 0600, and I got many surprized looks when I walked in. Marij called around 1300 to see how I was holding out. I had my afternoon dip a couple of hours early. The sun was shining brightly when I headed for home at 1600. Rosan was cooking when I arrived home. I had some fried chicken and potatoe salad. I called around for a ride to Boekel. Jan was recovering from a skiing injury. He would be out of the running for another month. I got a ride from Ron and Chris. We picked up Maureen along the way.

Doe de Dommel

Sunday, 5-April-2009 - Boxtel - Today's Fun-on-Wheels tour is called Doe de Dommel, because the route crossed the Dommel River several times. The day started out overcast, but the sun came out before we were through. We were 25 skaters strong--good for 29 km. A special well done goes to marathon runner Ton Rijkers. It was his first time out on skates. When I got home, I had enough energy left to do some yard work.

First Skate of the Season

Saturday, 4-April-2009 - Veghel - It was my first outdoor skate of the season--I didn't trust the weather last weekend. On my way to the Sligro meeting point, I passed a magnificent row of cherry trees in full blossum. Six Fun-on-Wheels skaters headed in the direction of Wijbosch. Maria gave us a yoga lesson along the way, and Frans and Mieke showed us some hill climbing skills. We were good for 15 km.

Fun-on-Wheels Family Day

Sunday, 08-March-2009 - Gemert - Today 30 Fun-on-Wheels skaters and family members met at the Boerenbonds (Farmers Association) Museum. Ten VéloSoleX motorized bicycles were lined up ready to mount, thanks to Toon and Tonnie. Inside after greeting each other and drinking a cup of coffee, we listened to Henriëtte explain the day's activities. I went with the first group of riders. It turned out that I had the fastest "Solex", so I had to keep squeezing the "clutch" to slow it down. Annie met us at the halfway point with a delicious cup of erwten (pea) soup. When we got back the museum, lunch wrapped in a handkerchief was waiting for us. We took an intermission to hear Bart introduce us to veghel4warchild which supports the international http://www.warchild.org/ effort. We then got a guided tour from a retired farmer from the area. This reminded me of life on my Grandfather's farm when I was a boy. A wonderful day to remember.
