Anniversary

Saturday, 30-March-2013 - Veghel - Marij and I were married 36 years ago today. Grandma (Margaret) Ulbricht gave this painting to us when we visited her on our honeymoon.  It hangs above our bed.

De Heische Tip--Uden Volleyball Champion

Wednesday, 20-March-2013 - Uden - De Heische Tip (photo) won their final match and also the Mens Pool C Championship in the Uden Winter Evening Volleyball competition.  Frank and I were there for Marc's Bar-BQ to referee the following match. pics (5)

Fun-on-Wheels Family Day in Boekel

Sunday, 17-March-2013 - Boekel - Annie and Tonnie Smits celebrated Tonnie's 60th birthday by hosting the Fun-on-Wheels Family Day at their home in Boekel.  Strange Sympathy live music, sumo wrestling, and a barbecue helped make this a day to remember. pics (182)

Healthy Popular Trees Cut Down in Zijtaart

Thursday, 14-March-2013 - Gemert/Erp/Veghel/Zijtaart - On my way to Gemert, I enjoyed the tree-lined road.  I imagined how Veghel would look after trees were cut down to save money on maintenance.  On my way back home, I veered off to Zijtaart to see for myself (work had begun earlier this week).  To my shock, healthy 25-year old popular trees (populus canadensis) are being cut down in Zijtaart.  Under the right conditions, these trees can live to be 200 years old!  I saw unnecessary destruction of CO2 absorption capacity, habitat for birds and animals, and Brabant landscape. I'll be contacting Theo Lemmers, Veghel Public Space Management for his explanation.  In the meantime, I put my thoughts down here: What did you do today?
