Back Home--Safe and Sound

Wednesday, 30-june-2010, - Schiphol - Picked up Katherine at Schiphol Airport (AMS). She arrived safe and sound, wearing a Canadian top. We were glad to see each other. Katherine had many stories to tell. While I was waiting, I met Dutch TV host Joris Linssen. He was working on the last episode for the new season of Hello Goodbye. I admire his remarkable ability to get people to confide and open up to him.

Oirschot-Welschap-Wintelre Skating

Sunday, 27-June-2010 - Oirshot - Another warm and sunny day. After meeting at the carpool in Veghel, we drove to Pieter's house in Oirschot--the starting point of today's tour. Pieter surprized us with his music buggy, as Maria calls it. He guided us through varied country side--including along the Beatrix Canal-- simply beautiful. 20 skaters--good for 38 km.

Sports in Veghel

Saturday, 26-June-2010 - Veghel - Fun-on-Wheels was one of thirty sports clubs who presented themselves today. Before I left home, I mended my camera case. On the way to the town center, I took a look at the place where a fatal accident happened earlier in the week. A grounds keeper lost control of his mowing machine, and landed in the river. After reporting to our stand, I helped pass out Fun-on-Wheels flyers. Before meeting the rest to go on a short skate, I got fall training from Kempo Hu Quan.

Visiting Injured Skaters

Saturday, 12-June-2010 - Veghel/Zijtaart - It was a beautiful day. In the morning, I was watching my grass grow. At 1600, I headed off to the Sligro meeting point. Three skaters were injured during the Paris Skating Weekend. We decided to visit two skaters who lived in the local area. Thankfully, they were both recovering well.

Skating Weather

Tuesday, 8-June-2010 - Boekel - When I got up this morning, I wasn't sure if the weather would be good for skating later in the evening--rain was forecasted, but I made enough sandwiches to eat on the way home from work just in case. Took some pics of flowers in the front yard. During the day, it stayed dry and was pretty nice. Looked at the radar forecast around 1600, and saw that oncoming rain was going to skirt around Boekel. It was getting pretty ominus in Tilburg when I headed for home around 1700, but the sun came out as I was heading for Boekel--I was running late so I drove myself. On the way there, I saw houses decorated in orange, Holland's national color (House of Orange)--people all over the country are getting fired up for the World Cup in South Africa which starts on Friday . There were 23 skaters this evening. We split up in two groups. I went with Gerard. He was sure it would stay dry for us--he was right. Two skaters fell shortly after the start--Willy and Jos sported bloody knees, but that didn't spoil the fun. We got back at 2030. It was a great skate--24 km. It started to rain just before I got back to Veghel--great timing!
